White

We painted the walls of our family room white.  They were previously orange. 
With the change of color we also re-arranged how the couch is placed in the room and brought in the Jens Risom credenza as our TV table.  The lamp on the credenza is a Goodwill find and the ball lamps on the floor are from ebay.  The painting in the corner is a garage sale find and the tan leather chair is a France & Sons.  Teak candle holders from Sweden, an Artemide lamp, fruit tree, Vitra Aluge, and a picture of the sweetest boy in world, round out the top of the wall mounted cabinet.

You can't watch a TV commercial  for dog food, deodorant, or even a new car without there being a Noguchi coffee table in the background. This coffee table is a design icon and staple of every modern decor.  We have now joined in and we have one too. 

Tequila!

This agave plant keeps surviving and thriving.  This past month has been very hot and dry here in Marietta.

What is the multiple for Cactus? Cacti?

So much good natural light in my office.  The cactus love it, but it leaves no place to sit.  Ouch!

Mod Playhouse

Noah has one of the coolest playhouses. We plan on having a lot of fun playing here.

Hallway Photos

Our friend and all around handy man Matt Barile built these piture frames for us. It really turned out nice. The good thing is, we can change out these pictures as Noah grows up.

Roof, Roof

Our new roof is on. Next is to pick the correct darker pantone color for the house.

Modern Cactus

My office gets great natural light. I've enjoyed turning these Heller plastic dinnerware pieces in to pots for cactus'.

Vintage Camping

We have a new weekend hobby. It's our 1969 Coleman CT390 pop-up camper.

This should bring us many lasting memories with Noah.

Herman Miller aluminum group

Our new kitchen table.
I found this Herman Miller "Aluminum Group" table (designed by Charles & Ray Eames) in South Carolina from an office furniture re-seller. This re-seller goes to auctions and buys the furniture of a company that has gone out of business.
I got this table for $90. The wood matches our cabinets perfect.

Garage Sale Find

The other Saturday we went to a community wide garage sale. I found this table at one of the houses and was able to get it for $30.

I need one more piece of furniture in my office like I need a hole in my head, but I couldn't pass it up.

Although it looks like a Knoll Tulip table it's instead from the "House of Denmark" store and purchased in the 70's. The table is 36" across with a laminate top.

Not a bad find.

City Issue

Yeah!!!
We finally have a dinning room table. This fine Herman Miller "aluminum group" conference table is designed by Charles & Ray Eames.
After a lot of searching and half a year without a dinning room table, we found this table at City Issue.
The wood color could not match more perfectly with our chairs and china cabinet.
Now is time to have a dinner party.

Marietta Modern Christmas

We've decided to go very minimalistic this Christmas. Clean lines, no clutter, and no presents under the tree. We'll have to change that.

Bubble

So the search for a dinning room table continues. We know we will find the right table some day.
In the mean time we have found a new antique store in Chamblee. The name of the store is "Ice House Antiques". They carry mid century items and they are very reasonablypriced.

My 2 new favorite additions to the house have come from Ice House Antiques.
We have added George Nelson Bubble lamps by Modernica over the Kitchen table and soon to find dinning room table. The one over the Kitchen table is the medium size saucer shape and the Dinning Room light is the medium size Cigar shape. They are some true iconic pieces of Mid Century Modern design.

Factory Connection

Took the family to Antique Factory in Chamblee today. This is my favorite antique shop for Mid Century Modern finds. Peter the owner is very nice guy.
We are looking for a teak colored dinning room table and though we would give Pete's shop a look. We did not find anything.

Favorite homes in my hood

My neighborhood was built in the early to mid 70's. It's a great place to live because of it's convenience to Atlanta, active community and mature foliage. Each house is different so it is not cookie cutter. There are Tudors, Georgian, and Contemporary houses in the neighborhood.

Here are a few of my favorite.

All about plastic

"Great Creative Ideas"
One the most unusual of my plastic finds is this Kartell trash can. The label on the bottom reads "Kartell Milano, designer G. Colombini, made in the USA, by Beylerian Ltd."
What I've been able to find about this is, Beylerian Ltd. was the maker of Kartell product in America back in the early 70's. Beylerian product could be found in the home section of high end department stores. It may have been too fashion forward for Americans because it didn't last.
With the writing "Great Creative Ideas" on the trash can, I think this maybe have been a store fixture or an advertising piece.

Everyone has their likes and dis-likes. Good taste to one person is bad taste to another.

My deign taste is more towards 60's & 70's plastics. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have and Eames "Lounge chair" or Jacobsen "Egg chair". But what I would really like is an Eero Aarnio "Pastille Chair" ( green miniature chair in the photo). There is just something to be said about some good old Italian plastic.

For now I'll have to settle for the miniature chair instead.
